The Obama's White House Garden

I love this: Michelle Obama wants to promote eating local, healthy produce and even growing some yourself. And especially in the middle of a recession it's important to find ways to save money while eating healthy. It doesn't cost a lot to start a garden. My balcony garden will cost more than if I had a yard to dig into - the price of pots and potting soil really adds up. Still, it's a worthwhile investment and I'm sure I'll get much more out of it than I put in.

I wonder if this effort will spawn the kind of response that Eleanor Roosevelt's victory garden did during WWII.

  1. I am excited to walk by her house during the summer--I work only four blocks from the White House. But I wonder why it's only salad greens and herbs, with a dash of peas and berries?

I would LOVE to see them garden pumpkin, squash, soybean, corn, all the delicious staples! Not that I'm judging--to be honest, I think this is one of the best moves any President (or his wife) has made in decades!

  3. Hey again!

I was thinking you might be totally into this. I'm going to try it (it doesn't sound like the "forward this to all your friends and Microsoft will pay you" type of thing, at least).

I tagged you in an Earth Month meme to improve your environmental friendliness (with prizes!).
